Hi Bobby M, Even though I haven't been down to the Giglio Feast in a few years, I can tell you that this saddens me very much. I'm sure that many people will be shocked and saddened by this as well. While I can't do any physical labor, I would be more than happy to volunteer to do some administrative work from home to lighten someone else's load so they can do other physical work. I hope this news shakes some people up to step up and do their fair share. What a shame that a tradition so wonderful as this has to come to an end. Love and AIEH, Roe

Bad News. I post here with a heavy heart. The BOD of the Giglio Society of East Harlem recently had a meeting. They voted to no longer have the Giglio Feast.. Why? about 10% of the members do all the work...They've had it. There are many members who can step up to the plate and take responsibility for helping out..doing their share..instead of leaving it up to the Grandfathers to see everything runs smoothly. Yes there are a few of the younger guys who help...but only a handful. What is doing one's share? Showing up to load the wood..unloading it..assisting with the build, showing up for cleanup. Last but not least..having raffle tickets in well before feast starts. But only well than half the members do this..Some of the others want those running to the feast to stop what they are doing and settle up. The rest expect a shirt for nothing....no volunteer work..no raffle tickets.. Few other things too..but I don't want to name names. They know who they are. It's also a shame that the efforts put out by a few are not appreciated. Why thenshould they go on? This did not happen overnite..but has been steadily building up over the years. But this years apathy, nonsense and shenanigans really broke the horse back...and horse just can't run anymore. Those of you here who are members will be getting an official notice regarding this devastating news..I'm sorry and feel bad about it all. The feast means a lot to many of us and this is breaking our hearts...All because some who say they love the feast refused to step up to the plate.

Hi Charlie D. Hope all is well. I was speaking to my cousins, Robert and Richard (twins) last night and they mentioned they were speaking with you at the Giglio Feast. I told them we are friends because of this great web site but not from when we were younger. I also told them that you are Beverly's cousin, and Annie's nephew. They wished they knew when they were speaking to you. Their family and Beverly's family were very close. At one time, they moved close to my family in New Jersey but moved back to NY because they hated being away from here. We always did have a great time with them when they were in NJ too. Annie was just hysterical. It's such a small world. Anyway, my cousins will be at the stickball game next week so they'll see you there. Also, my nephew will be there and some of his cousins too. I will not be coming, but will be there in spirit. Have a great time. Love and AIEH, Roe

Hi Cousin Charles - I just spoke to my dad and he told me about your conversation. He will love the stickball game on Sept. 12, which happens to be my son, Mike's birthday. Wish I could be in NY. I always miss the fall in NY. The weather is perfect. It has been a while since I have been on the website. Congratulations on your new grandson. I am going to read the article in the NY Post about the sfogliatelle pastry. I sometimes have some pastry shipped out here. Hi Joe Salz and to everyone else. Greetings from Colorado

Charlie D - thanks. Yes I am very proud of her - she's quite a talent. I can't wait for her to make some for me, they're my favorite pastry.

I just spoke to my cousin Bibby who I haven't seen in 40 years. This week he moved back to NY and I can't wait to see him. He asked me about the Stickball game on Sep. 12th and I'm going to pick him up and bring him. The great part is that we connected again after his daughter Lorraine found this site. AIEH

Audrey sent news about her grandaughter........ Today's NY Post has an article on the NYC Fall new restaurant openings. There's a mention of Donatella and DBar which will be opening on Sept 24th. My grandaughter is and will be their pastry chef for the restaurant. Unfortunately there's no mention of her, but does have a photo of Donatella with a plate of Andrea's sfogliatelle, in front of her. Below is the link: http://www.nypost.com/p/lifestyle/food/where_to_eat_in_nyc_this_fall_lajKXzEwK9Q5D2lNadY9eM?photo_num=11 Audrey...yuou should be very proud.
